With neoliberal policies, the era of self-contained economies ended; the state control on the markets reduced, government business enterprises diminished, or government subsidies reduced. In line with these developments the government monopoly on radio and television broadcast ended, giving way to private media ownership. The change in media ownership began to be reflected in the media content mostly at the second half of the 1990s. Among those neoliberal reflections are the tabloidization of news, media content, and analysis; promotion of consumption culture and new lifestyles from advertisements; to news of almost all media types and standardization of content. This study deals with the content of weekend supplements of newspapers and analyzes them within the context of globalization, consumption culture, standardization, and differentiation. The criteria in choosing the newspapers was varying ownership and ideological stance: YeniŞafak, Sabah, Hürriyet, Milliyet, Vatan. The Weekend supplements of a random month are analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively in terms of news content.
